The outdoor recreation areas maintained by the state are areas designed for outdoor pursuits and invigorating experiences in nature. Lapland has two recreational areas: Arctic Circle and Inari. These regions are not official recreational areas, but are founded on the basis of resolutions made by Metsähallitus (formerly the Finnish Forest & Park Service). However, these areas have services that correspond to official recreational areas.
