In the heart of Rovaniemi, there’s a place where Santa can deliver even the biggest presents right to one’s door: Santa’s Hotel Santa Claus. This particular hotel offers a drive-in chance for film productions to bring the equipment truck directly to building’s ground floor and unpack the load. Add comfortable beds and restaurants and you’ll get a truly film-friendly accommodation in the most central location in Finnish Lapland. All modern city services are in walking distance, and the airport can be reached in 15 minutes by car.
The space in hotel’s ground floor consists of three large spaces that can be restructured to the working production’s needs, for example, by converting all three spaces into one large area. Another large space can be found on the second floor but without the drive-in possibility.
In addition to the main hotel in the city center, the chain offers another film-friendly accommodation option for production companies ten minutes away, walking distance. Located on Koskikatu, Santa’s Hotel Rudolf gives its guests a chance to come and go flexibly throughout the day. Here the crew is provided with rooms with a shared kitchen but –because the hotel chain has four restaurants in Rovaniemi – still in an area of restaurants reachable within walking distance.
Santa’s Hotel also has 71 modern glass igloos nearby Santa Claus Village in the Arctic Circle, Rovaniemi. The igloos are made for year-around use and they come with aurora borealis alerts. The hotel chain has glass igloos in Luosto too, about an hour and a half drive east of Rovaniemi.
Many production companies choose Lapland as a film location because of Arctic light conditions the area provides. However, light conditions vary greatly during the year. There’s one natural phenomenon every company can guarantee to film productions: there will be daylight for 24 hours from late May until late July, when the famous nightless-nights are on.
Santa’s Hotel chain has extended during the past years covering locations from Rovaniemi to Kilpisjärvi. In Kilpisjärvi the chain has 22 quality cottages right in the center of town. In Saariselkä, in the midst of Saami-culture, Santa’s Hotel-Tunturihotelli offers 260 beds – and endless summer light, of course.
