8 Reasons to Work in Finnish Lapland

Looking for a reason to work in Finnish Lapland? From nature to Christmas magic, here’s a list of some of the best reasons why your next job should be in northern Finland.

The rewards of a job in Finnish Lapland are greater than a paycheck. They include breathing the cleaning air in the world, living in the happiest country in the world, and the chance to discover Arctic Finland for yourself. Here are some of our favorite reasons to work in Lapland.

1. Balanced work-life

Outside of a few weeks around Christmas, the word “grind” doesn’t really apply to many jobs in Finnish Lapland. Part of what keeps Finns happy and healthy is a proper work-life balance.

2. Experience the North

Do you want to be among the few who have crossed the Arctic Circle? Northern Finland offers a winter wonderland, full of snow and Christmas magic on one side of the year, and a warm Nightless Night where the wilderness and natural culture of Lapland is yours to explore and discover.

3. Explore true nature

For some, the nature offered by a city park or a dusty peak in the distance is enough. Others want to feel the soil of ancient forests beneath their feet, to savor the sweet fragrance of Arctic flowers with a hint of pine trees. In Lapland, nature is not something you go to; it’s something you’re a part of. Having a job in Finnish Lapland means true nature is always just around the corner.

4. Proper Christmas

There’s a reason so many seasonal workers return to Lapland, year after year after year: the magic of real Finnish Christmas, the mix of joy and snowflakes that fills the air, the enjoyment of working alongside international workers and visitors.

5. Guaranteed Auroras

There are times when everyone in Lapland stops what they’re doing and looks up to the night sky. Among the sparkling stars dances ribbons of green and violet light. Sometimes you grab your phone to try to capture the moment, other times you just feel connected to the cosmos itself. In Lapland, auroras happen on average every other night and yet somehow the magic never fades. For aurora guides, the job is literally hunting auroras with excited guests from around the world. What could be better?

6. Well-connected to the world

For the past three decades, Lapland has prided itself on being the most connected region in the Arctic. We have five airports (with two more nearby), as well as European highways and national roads that crisscross the north. That means it’s easy to get here, easy to bring friends and family for a visit, or easy to pop out for a holiday in Paris.

7. Employer-assisted Housing

For many seasonal workers, the hassle and confusion of arranging housing is as easy as saying “Yes, please.” As Lapland needs more workers in winter than the rest of the year, employers often arrange for housing, making it easy for workers to come and start living in Lapland immediately.
